Frequently Asked Questions
How much material do I need?
Easy! You can use our material calculator below! A good rule of thumb is 1 cubic yard of any material will cover a 100 square feet at 3 inches thick.
What is a cubic yard?
A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Imagine a box 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 3 feet high. The area inside that box is 1 cubic yard. It is the standard measurement that The Yard LLC uses for selling bulk landscaping materials.
What are the benefits of using mulch?
Mulch keeps the soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter providing better growing conditions for your plants. Mulches reduce the growth of weeds, when the mulch is weed-free and applied deeply enough to prevent weed germination. Organic mulches can also improve the soil structure. Decaying mulch also adds nutrients to the soil.
Will mulch attract insects?
No, the idea that mulch attracts insects is a myth.
Can you dump my material on the lawn?
Dumping of materials on a lawn will call for certain circumstances. Weeks without rain are normally required to dry the lawn enough to support the weight of our trucks. If our driver thinks that the lawn will not be able to handle the truck, the material must be dumped in a designated location such as a driveway or other paved area. We are not responsible for any damages that may occur to your lawn or our truck when attempting to dump upon your request.
How many bags of mulch are equivalent to 1 yard?
It would take 13.5 bags of 2 cubic feet mulch to equal 1 cubic yard or 9 bags of 3 cubic feet mulch to equal 1 cubic yard.
Should I install dyed mulch in the rain?
Please note that dyed mulch sometimes needs 24 hours to cure, with no rain, after you install. Up until that point, colorants can fade. It’s usually recommended that you work with freshly dyed mulches on a dry day, when no rain is forecasted. Should it rain before it has cured, you may lose some of the color.
